Green power
Zero carbon building, Performance standard, Version 2, Published by the Canada Green Building Council in March 2021, defines green power as: ‘Electricity generated from renewable resources, such as solar, wind, geothermal, low-impact biomass, and low-impact hydro resources. Green power is a subset of renewable energy that does not include renewable energy systems that do not produce electricity, such as solar thermal systems.’
It defines a green power product as: 'A contractual purchase of offsite green power. Green power may be in the form of bundled green power products or renewable energy certificates (RECs).'
And utility green power as: '...a product offered by some utilities in Canada where the electricity and the associated environmental attributes (in the form of RECs) are sold together.'
